Friday: Samaritan’s Purse Dedicates New Facility in North Wilkesboro

Samaritan's Purse President and CEO Franklin Graham will dedicate the organization's new warehouse and office space in North Wilkesboro this Friday. The 202,000-square-foot building was constructed on the property where Lowe's Companies Inc. formerly had its corporate headquarters. It will warehouse disaster relief supplies and accommodate multiple departments of the Boone-based organization—including components of its international disaster response team, North American Ministries and donor ministries departments.

"Samaritan's Purse responds to disasters in the U.S. and around the world in Jesus' name," Graham said. "We thank God for this new facility, which will increase our ability to bring emergency relief and the hope of the gospel to hurting people."

Along with medical equipment and other aid supplies, Samaritan's Purse will maintain its emergency field hospitals at the site. In its entirety, each rapidly deployable hospital is comprised of two surgical theaters, an emergency room, an intensive care unit, a pharmacy, a laboratory and more than 50 inpatient beds. One emergency field hospital is currently deployed just outside of Mosul, Iraq, where, since early this year, Samaritan's Purse has treated more than 1,700 victims of war—more than 900 of whom underwent major surgery. Last year, another field hospital was airlifted to Ecuador in the wake of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake.

The 164,000-square-foot warehouse is also stocked with X-ray machines, anesthesia machines, 18,000 hygiene kits and 9,780 rolls of plastic tarp—enough to provide emergency shelter for 48,900 families following a disaster. In addition to the warehouse and 20,000 square feet of office space, an 18,000-square-foot parking garage houses five U.S. disaster relief tractor-trailers that deploy anywhere in the U.S.—responding to tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, ice-storms and wildfires.
