CA Celebrates More Than 1M Christmas Gifts for Children Overseas, Including Hurricane Victims

The recent vicious hurricane season and violent tragedies have not destroyed Americans' desire to give back. Some 30,000 West Coast volunteers are preparing colorfully wrapped shoeboxes—filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys—for children who are suffering from war, disease, poverty and disaster, including young hurricane victims in the Caribbean. Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse, will deliver these shoebox gifts with a message: "You are loved and not forgotten!"

On Friday, Dec. 1, volunteers and kids will gather to celebrate the community-wide effort of sending hope to more than one million children around the world. This year, Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project of its kind, hopes to collect enough gifts to reach 12 million children.
