Point U. Brings College Degrees to Busy Adults at New SE ATL Location

Students, Parents Offered Information, Tours and Fun at Sept. 29 Open House at New McDonough Location

Point University, a Christian liberal arts university based in West Point, is opening its third metro-Atlanta location to provide college degrees to busy adults and college credits for high school students. The site in McDonough, the university’s sixth in addition to its main campus, shares a space with McDonough Christian Church and will serve students looking for a convenient southeast Atlanta location.

“Point University’s newest location in McDonough is conveniently located directly off of Interstate 75 South toward Macon,” said Melissa Roberts, Point University’s McDonough director. “Our adult-degree students can take their careers to the next level by committing to attend class just one night a week and doing the rest of the coursework online. High schoolers gain the experience of taking classes in the format of a college schedule.”

Point University’s McDonough location offers associate and bachelor’s degree programs, including Human Relations, Organizational Leadership and Christian Ministries, all taught within a Christian context. Flexible class times, accelerated formats and supportive instructors allow busy adults to successfully navigate the rigors of college. High school students participating in the dual-enrollment program can earn college credit through classes including Critical Reading and Writing, U.S. Government, College Algebra and Introduction to Psychology.

Recently, several of our church members have completed their college education through the Point University adult-degree program at other Atlanta locations,” said Paul Leslie, McDonough Christian Church senior pastor. “In fact, our church is led by several Point University graduates who have been on staff for over 20 years. The influence of Point University is woven throughout our congregation.

“Partnering with Point by offering them space in which to operate is another way that McDonough Christian Church can intentionally reach the community where God has planted us,” said Leslie.

An open house—for prospective students, parents or anyone wanting to learn more about Point University—will be held Sept. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at McDonough Christian Church. It will feature free food from Chick-fil-A provided by Truett’s Grill, and music and prizes from The JOY FM. The event’s activities include an opportunity to register to win tickets to a concert by acclaimed Christian rock band Building 429, and Point University staff and students will be on-hand to provide tours and answer questions.

In Point University’s ongoing effort to support the local community, open house attendees are encouraged to bring donations of nonperishable food items, toothpaste and soap for The Food Pantry by In His Name Ministries, which will also be on-site for the open house. The Food Pantry provides support for more than 3,000 people each month in the southern crescent in Atlanta. For additional information on accepted items, please visit HelpingInHisName.org.
