Feb 16, Charlotte: Fans Flock to Sold-Out All-Star Breakfast

Event Celebrates Leadership, Character on and off Court

During NBA All-Star Weekend, one event is featuring a special group of all-stars: players and coaches exhibiting exemplary character, leadership and faith both on and off the court. The sold-out All-Star Breakfast is a fan favorite, providing an opportunity to rub elbows with sports greats.

The 13th annual breakfast is being hosted by Athletes in Action in partnership with the NBA Retired Players Association. The 2019 event will include the presentation of the Jerry Colangelo and Bobby Jones Awards.

The Jerry Colangelo Award recognizes someone in NBA management who displays excellent character and leadership in all areas of life. The 2019 Colangelo Award winner is Paul Westphal, a two-time All American, five-time NBA All-Star, two-time NBA All-Star Head Coach and College Basketball Hall of Famer.

The Bobby Jones Award recognizes a former NBA player who lives an exemplary life on the basketball court, in the home and in the community. The 2019 Bobby Jones Award winner is three-time All American, four-time NBA All-Star and Basketball Hall of Famer David Thompson.

In addition to the award presentations, the event will feature:

  • Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner—once as a player, once as a coach—and studio analyst for "Football Night in America"
  • Two-time NBA All-Star Allan Houston (co-emcee)
  • Four-time All-American Gymnast Kim Anthony (co-emcee)
